How It Works

step 1

CONVENIENT Online Class Pre-Work

Before attending the IE Quick Start you use your private Innovation Engineering Labs portal to complete about 100 short digital classes that teach you the concepts of each of the skills and subskills. Each digital class contains a video explaining the concept of a skill followed by a short quiz.


step 2

PRACTICAL “HANDS ON” CLASSES

Join your fellow classmates at the 5 LIVE in class days of the course that make the digital learning real.  You'll roll your sleeves up and work through hands on interactive experiences that help you learn how to apply the skills you learned about in the pre-work. You'll work in small teams that constantly change throughout the course.  Coaches will guide your work and you'll get live feedback from online instructors that grade your submissions.

Day 1 CREATE - Teaches a system that enables anyone - no matter how creative they feel they are - to problem solve, create improvements, or invent breakthrough ideas.

Day 2 COMMUNICATE - Teaches a step by step system for helping everyone communicate the ideas they create with clarity. The consequence of sharper communication is improved collaboration, alignment, and most importantly smarter and deeper thinking on how to make the idea successful. 

Day 3 COMMERCIALIZE - Teaches how to turn ideas into reality faster and with much less risk of failure.  It's probably the most fun and liberating of the Innovation Engineering courses.  

Day 4 MAKING IT REAL - This course enables students to see how the parts of Innovation Engineering work together as a whole system. 

Day 5 SYSTEM DRIVEN LEADERSHIP - This course teaches you how to lead major projects and improvements in how your teams, departments, divisions, and outside resources work together.

CERTIFICATION

The final step is application of the learning to real world projects that really matter to you and your organization.  In the 6 months that follow the class you will be given a collection of assignments to apply your new skills to work that's relevant to you. A coach provides in person, phone, and or on-line feedback depending on the support package you select. There are no “tricky tests” or “games played.” The certification process is singularly focused on developing your skills and confidence in leading innovation at a world class level.  Once you successfully pass all assignments, you'll be given an Innovation Engineering Black Belt Certification.
