"Courage is the ability to cultivate a relationship with the unknown; to create a form of friendship with what lies around the corner over the horizon -- with those things that have not yet fully come into being."
"You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."
Good Morning Innovation Pioneers,
This Labor Day I salute YOU for your Courage and your Commitment to Changing the World by transforming innovation from a random art to a reliable science.
The two quotes at the head of this post - speak to your courage and faith in the future. Each of you has chosen faith over fear. Your work is tireless, brilliant and inspirational.
Yes friends - you have trusted in the future. You have trusted - when this movement was more of a dream than reality. Today we are the world's largest innovation movement on planet earth. We have the largest amount (# and value) of quantified innovations in process - the largest number of students and executives learning and applying the same curriculum. And, while we cannot know what the future will bring - Future Mining gives us hints at the future...
I can't give out all details - because of pending patent filings and contract negotiations - however I can tell you....
1. New Tools & Technologies: This past week we filed the first of a series of patents that when we release the technologies - will take Innovation Engineering to new levels.
IELabs development is accelerating - over the past few months we've added additional programming support plus we are blessed with the investment of time, energy and money by multi-national corporations to accelerate development.
There is a next generation National Innovation Marketplace (Innovation Supply Chain) coming that will make the vision outlined by Vice President Joe Biden a reality! "...it (NIM + Human Network) helps manufacturers craft a new business plan, involving new capital, new tools, new technologies and new skills. By helping our manufacturers make the shift, from aging industries into vibrant, growing manufacturing sub-sectors, this program will help put them on a self-sustaining path, building strong supply chains to support the new economy and creating good jobs along the way."
The next generation system builds on feedback from OEM Manufacturers, Universities, Federal Labs, SME Companies, Inventors and Government thought leaders around the world. It includes a new business model and mindset for how you interact with it. We have patent filings in process on it - and are in the process of finalizing the next advisory board to help guide development. Recall the first NIM Advisory board had Lockheed Martin, 3M, Procter & Gamble, Circuit City, NIST MEP, U Maine, Kauffman Foundation, Dean Kamen and others.
We are also in collaboration discussions with two of America's thought leading innovation professors. This will give access to some great new content and add even more credibility to our movement.
Bottom line - the advantage you have with Innovation Engineering is going continue to grow!
2. Publicity for the movement: This is a possible game changer. Just as NBC with the help of Clare Crawford-Mason accelerated the Deming movement - we have the producer at one of the top news programs in the USA very interested in a feature story on the history and status of the Innovation Engineering Movement.
We also have a strong lead on an Innovation Engineering TV Show. This will take time to come to reality - but having done a half dozen network tv programs - it feels like we're onto something. AND - it's all because of the work YOU DO.
3. New Book: I'm working every morning on the Innovation Engineering book. I'm well into it - and can say with confidence - you are going to be very happy with it. It's my sixth book - and by far the best. When I don't want to get up early to write I think of you - out there on the front lines slugging away - I get up and get my fingers on the keyboard. You will hear more about the book in the late fall when I ask you for stories of your victories and frustrations. My goal is to have 100 co-authors!
4. Innovation Engineering Minor & Graduate Certificate: This school year we released Innovation Engineering more broadly on campus. We have colleges/universities from Maine to Washington State to Virginia to Louisiana - with Kansas, Vermont and others including Xavier in Cincinnati joining the movement. This offers opportunities for you to "give back" as an Innovation Engineering teacher. It will also grow next generation interns and employees to help you accelerate your movement.
Thank You for all you do!
Thank you from the Innovation Engineering Institute Team, the Eureka! Ranch Team and myself.
We are 100% behind you!
The future is bright!
