Many people die at 25 and aren't buried until they are 75.

The headline to this post is as true today and was it was when first written by Ben Franklin over 200 years ago.

By coincidence a friend sent me the quote just as I was drafting this post. The quote  summed up learnings I'd had over the past week from two wise people, one older and one much younger. Each touched me deeply with their words, understanding and authenticity.

One taught me the importance of JOY in work as Dr. Deming taught.  When we are having fun we do great work.  When our work is meaningfully unique we find JOY and are fully alive. When we are disengaged we are waiting to be buried.

One opened me to the need to set EMOTIONAL BOUNDARIES when I’m helping others. Caring opens the soul. But losing myself in the turbulence of those who are not interested in learning or not open to change is a waste of every.

I don’t know about you but I think I’d rather be fully alive.

If you’d like to join with some amazing thought leaders - I’m holding a special Innovation Engineering Leadership Summit the evening of Monday December 4 (starting at 6:00) then all day December 5 and 6 at the Eureka! Ranch in Cincinnati. There is no cost.  All I ask is that you bring an open mind as we engage in conversation on how to best enable innovation.

We have just a few spaces left. If you’re interested email me at or message me on LinkedIn.
